Ukraine – If the solution comes from the Jerusalem-İstanbul-Третий Рим route

President Biden arrives in Old Europe to give instructions to NATO, European Union, European Council and G7

by Glauco D’Agostino

St. Basil’s Cathedral on Moscow’s Red Square points the way. The peace so much invoked and so little practised does not lie in the unsteady Joe’s hands. He does not have the feeling to understand the symbolic sense of the architectural gem opposite the Kremlin. He only has an oligarch resume to show and 50 years in the US Congress. Probably not enough to understand the dynamics in which the US is involved. Don’t worry. The reference to St. Basil is not a premise to an esoteric essay. It is about geopolitics. And that’s what Joe is not versed.

The four international bodies he is overseeing today could unite in one. It would make it easier. After all, they are the proxy organisations of an alleged Empire that does not have the chrism of the title’s legitimacy. Jerusalem does, İstanbul does, Moscow does.

Esotericism? Geopolitical reality! That vertical geographical axis is also an area of a meeting of world lifestyles, of Weltanschauungen, which aim to dialogue among diversity, opposed to the “clash of civilizations and the remaking of the world order.” The latter was the cypher of the Bush-era atrocities in the Afghani and Iraqi wars and the deriving civil wars that plagued the world. In this sense, lovely Joe is the continuation of that infamous era, which the entire international community has bowed to in servility to a disguised illegitimate Emperor. All of his heirs have been guilty of war crimes. The kind Mrs Del Ponte, no longer in her capacity of inquisitor, still preaches on new indictments’ advisability, while she doesn’t hint at crimes of the recent past.

What differentiates the secession of Kosovo from Serbia compared to the Donbass’ from Ukraine? Let me be clear. My stance is not biased since I have no reason. And I explain why, too. I am Italian, and the state schools of the Republic taught me the Irredentism value in Trieste. I have also studied secessionism of Basque, Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Chechen, Kurdish, Uyghur, Berber in Algeria and Morocco, Indian Kashmir, Chinese Taiwan, South Tyrolean in Italy, and so forth. What makes us be on either side? Human rights, perhaps? International law, maybe? Which one, the one allowing the infamous invasion of Iraq on a lie about Saddam’s enriched uranium? We realise the contradictions!

Well. All remembered experiences have passed through armed conflicts. The divergences arise between the attitude of fomenting conflicts and the one that “repudiates war as an instrument of offence to other peoples’ freedom and a means of resolving international disputes.” I’m just quoting art. 11 of the Italian Constitution. All the parties involved have their good reasons, sometimes ideal, another time of mere material and economic interests. Even the war industry has legitimacy, and national laws and universal values, even liberal ones, recognise it. However, if the goal is peace (but is it?), the messages must be peaceful. Pursuing peace does not mean ethical equidistance. We are still on the right path. But boycotting the pursuit of peace is a crime against humanity.

President Biden comes to Europe with a message of war. Americans are tired of warmongers who rule them. After the Berlin Wall fall, all the latest presidents have launched war messages, even though the US had no foes on the world stage. They had to invent them, and they succeeded. Now the scenery has changed, and one must take note. The right attitude would be to work for a compromise, come to Europe as one who saves the world from war instead of one compacting four ambiguous organisations as opposed to an alleged “axis of evil.” Mistakes belong to lovely Joe, as well as to the West as a whole. They have all lost their role as mediators and took on that of Rambo-like hangmen. I cannot sit at a negotiating table premising: “Provided you are a war criminal” or “Considering your war is of an unprecedented ferocity,” “Since I could tell Del Ponte” or, if you are a goodwill Franciscan, “Here, we must first distinguish between Cain and Abel”. Bad faith would emerge, and, yes, it is a case of crime against peace.

The approach is wrong. We don’t want to believe in bad faith since we don’t believe in any axis of evil. It is about incapacity. When will the West begin to study geopolitics and use other means not based on dubious international courts or unfair sanctions? When will it understand the weapons of diplomacy are worth more than the MOAB, the mother of all bombs Trump proudly dropped in Afghanistan just five years ago? Biden, Trump’s legitimate heir, seems to have started the same muscle line.

The Jerusalem-İstanbul-Третий Рим route means just that. If negotiations are underway, it is due to Erdoğan and Bennett’s diplomatic efforts. These moves unbalance the ideological certainties of many because those figures represent worlds constantly in contrast on the ideal and geopolitical level but in constant contact with each other. They talk. And talking to each other means recognising a role. That historical role the three cities are aware of playing, under their historical deepness. And this cannot be invented with the MOAB.

Commitment, Biden, pledge! Or, please, Go Home!
